Al Capone
Al Capone was born in Brooklyn New York on Janauary 17, 1890. As a teenager, he quickly fell into the gang life. Eventually, he joined the Five Points Gang and worked under leaders Frankie Yale and Johnny Torrio. Eventually Torrio and Capone both moved to Chicago and created what may be the most notorious gang in history. When prohibition was implemented, the two started selling bootlegged alcohol. This business took off and became very profitable.
Due to pressure from Chicago city officials, Torrio and Capone moved their headquarters to Cicero, Illinois. After sustaining a serious injury from an attack by the North Side Gang, Torrio moved to Italy, and Al Capone assumed complete control. Capone built a huge crime organization and joined the Five Families of Chicago. Capone lived a very luxurious life, gambling and throwing money around regularly. He became a national celebrity. Although he was never convicted for any of the murders he ordered, like the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre where he ordered his men to kill seven North Side gang affiliates, he was eventually caught by the IRS for tax evasion and was incarcerated.
